TEACHING UMFUNDALAI

Empowering Artists with Holistic African Dance Pedagogy

While there are three credentials for teaching the Umfundalai technique of contemporary African Dance, two of them have training programs associated with them.  The Umfundalai Teachers’ training prepares artists to not only teach Umfundalai’s Pan-African movement system, but to share African culture in holistic and intentional ways. Certification and Licensing are statements of students’ aptitude in the following competencies.

  1. The Body (Biomechanics)

  2. Creativity

  3. History

  4. Philosophy (Aesthetics)

  5. Pedagogy

  6. Performance

  7. Presence (Essence)
